Spiritual Life Overview

We warmly welcome you to observe and celebrate with us and explore and deepen your own spiritual life in an open and supportive community. As a Reconstructing Judaism congregation, all services are participatory and egalitarian. Transliteration for Hebrew prayers and readings are integrated into our prayer books. Dynamic, engaging services build on a grounding in Jewish liturgical tradition with music, meditation, chant, study, issue-oriented guest speakers, b'nai mitzvah, and special themes.

Avodah at Mishkan Shalom

In our community there are many different ways of experiencing and understanding the Sacred.  We are a spiritually inclusive community of activist Jews.  Mishkan Shalom is a place to share our faith and our doubts, ask questions and learn from one another. At the heart of our Jewish practice is "B’tzelem Elohim", the understanding from ancient to contemporary times that each human being is created in the image of the Divine (Genesis 1:27), and each of us is equally valued with dignity and human rights.

We endeavor to create an environment that nurtures heartfelt prayer (avodat halev) during which we engage in spiritual practices (mitzvot/ruchaniyut) that grow gratitude, love, and compassion within and amongst us, and in the wider world. We are committed to blending our Jewish legacy with the values and imperatives of our times. Both the prayers of our tradition and new, creative liturgies developed in and outside our community express our yearning for an authentic connection with the Source of Life (devekut).

All services, gatherings, and Shabbat lunches are free and open to all.
