Social Groups
Social Groups
Mishkan Shalom’s Social Groups are a great way to get involved with the community on a social level. Whether it’s playing games together, singing together, or bonding over other shared interests/identities, our members genuinely enjoy each other’s company. These connections bridge generational, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic lines and are central to the rest of the work of our sacred community. And they provide a whole lot of joy.
Read more about them below and email Daniel if you would like to participate.
Hineinu: Mishkan Community Choir
Our community choir is made up of both Mishkan members and folks from the larger northwest Philadelphia community and sings a broad range of Jewish music. Learn more here.
Tuesdays, 7:15pm.
Next Meeting will start on September 2nd
Mah Jongg
Mah Jongg provides a chance to connect on a weekly basis, in real time. Deepen your bonds with longtime friends or make new ones while you kibbutz, challenge your mind, gamble (bring your quarters) and (sometimes) nosh. Our group’s players are varied in terms of skill but always focused on fun.
We gather on the 3rd floor of Mishkan most Monday evenings September through June, 7 – 9 pm. $5 per evening, payable with cash or Venmo. Crack, Bam, Dot!
Mondays-7:00-9:00pm.
Next Play: July 21st
Men of Mishkan
Men of Mishkan is open to all adult male-identifying members. The men in the group share their experiences and receive support and brotherhood from their peers.
Mondays (Bi-Weekly) 7:00-9:00pm
Next Meeting: July 28th
Young Adults of Mishkan Shalom (YAMS)
The Young Adults of Mishkan Shalom, affectionately known as the YAMS, are here to provide an inclusive, accessible, and supportive space for Jewish community joy. Members, prospective members, and allies in the greater Philadelphia area are welcome to join! The YAMS, mostly in their 20s-40s, get together for casual events throughout the year for socializing, spiritual activities, volunteering, and more.

We will begin our Tisha B'Av prayers with an experiential practice that comes from the work of Joanna Marcy. The Cairn of Mounring provides a space for us to express our grief for the losses that are occurring. This practice emphasizes the healing power of collective mourning, from which comes the power to endur hardship and act for the well-being of all. Facilitated by Lynne Iser and Rabbi Mordechai Liebling. -
