Shabbat Offerings

Many of our offerings are held in hybrid format or online via Zoom. We hold Shabbat services year round and invite you to celebrate with us. As a Reconstructionist congregation, all services are participatory and egalitarian. Transliteration for Hebrew prayers and readings are integrated into our prayer books. Below is an overview of our many Shabbat offerings.

Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday Evenings)

  • Join Rabbi Shawn Zevit for our soul-centered, musical Kabbalat, held two Friday evenings a month at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Please see our calendar for service times, and leaders. All services are held in hybrid format or online.
  • Monthly Community Potluck Dinners and Family Service, beginning at 6 p.m., preceding Kabbalat Shabbat services. All are welcome. Please see the calendar.

Shabbat Mornings

  • Torah study is held every Shabbat morning from 9-10 a.m., organized and led by Mishkan member Rabbi Eugene Sotirescu online, with monthly hybrid. Seasoned Torah study facilitators and first timers alike are all welcome to lead!
  • Shabbat morning services begin at 10 a.m., led by Rabbi Shawn Zevit and/or additional rabbinic and lay service leaders throughout the year. Dynamic, engaging services mix and alternate a grounding in Jewish liturgical tradition with music, meditation, chant, study, issue-oriented guest speakers, b'nai mitzvah and special themes.

Select Shabbat Programming

We also offer the following programming on select Shabbats and throughout the week:

  • Tot Shabbat: For children under 5 and their grownups. Please see calendar for dates.
  • Spiritual Direction Circle: Offered weekly on Zoom, led by trained Spiritual Director Meredith Barber. We request those participating arrive punctually so as not to disturb the flow and sharing that takes place.
  • Meditation: Contemplative and guided meditation is offered every Tuesday at 4 p.m. led by meditation teacher Abby Ruder.
  • Awakening to the Day: Wednesdays from 8-8:45 a.m. with Rabbi Shawn Zevit. Mixing some traditional prayers with contemporary original prayers and melodies, reflections that arise from the reality of our days, including offerings by participants, help us get centered midweek for the day and days ahead to Shabbat. Kaddish is also included for mourners.
  • Shir Hashirim: Preparing for Shabbat, Centering in Love: Fridays at 8 a.m. online, led by Wendy Galson and Susan Windle.
  • Healing Service: A 30-minute service, offered occasionally to help acknowledge the many physical-emotional-mental-spiritual challenges we and/or those we carry in our hearts are facing. This service includes chanting, healing prayers and a focus on resilience and bolstering our souls.
