November 22, 7:30pm: Havdalah Concert
An immersive experience for congregants and other participants in the Kohenet davening and the incredibly creative scholarship of Rabbi Jill Hammer and musical inspiration of Shoshana Jedwab.
On Kabbalat Shabbat, we'll look at some talmudic, kabbalistic, and modern Jewish texts about the sacred feminine, and consider some feminized prayers from Siddur haKohanot: The Hebrew Priestess Prayerbook; We'll think about the meaning and relevance of these texts for our times, and ask the question of whether and how prayer changes when we shift God's pronouns.
During Mincha, join us for a deep foray into biblical texts, scroll fragments and archaeological artifacts that introduce us to the priestesses of the ancient Israelite and Jewish world. We'll talk about this powerful history and consider the re-emergence of the Jewish priestess in contemporary times.
Finally, join us for a luminous evening of ritual rhythm and song as we transition from Shabbat into the new week. Beloved percussionist, prayer leader and singer-songwriter, Shoshana Jedwab and friends will celebrate Havdalah and invite us to sing and dance to a concert of her original devotional music. Shoshana Jedwab’s music nourishes the soul and supports our protests and prayers. Her songs, which emerged from ceremonies she led, are now sung and danced to in churches, synagogues, weddings, and protest marches worldwide. Shoshana Jedwab will perform her viral anthem, "Where You Go (I Will Go)," along with "I Remember," "Openings," "Ashrei," and upcoming singles "White Feathers" and "Borderline Ozi." Her devotional music delivers ancestral magic you can dance to. Come ready to tap into Spirit with fire, rhythm, spice, and song.
