Statement
of Principles
This Statement of Principles articulates the
fundamental beliefs that motivate and govern our existence as a synagogue.
While it is written as an enduring vision, an ongoing commentary by congregants
will, we hope, ensure that it continue to reflect and guide the values of
a vital Jewish community.
It was adopted as the founding principles of Mishkan Shalom at community meetings
during July 1988 and was subsequently amended at a community meetings in June,
1996 and March, 2003.
Avodah (Prayer)
Through prayer we seek to infuse our lives with the Divine Presence and with
K'dushah (holiness).
Torah (Study)
Through study we seek to enhance our understanding of our tradition and the
ways in which its teachings and insights may inspire our ethical and spiritual
growth.
G'milut Hasadim / Tikkun Olam (Acts of Caring and
Repair of the World)
Through acts of caring and repair we seek to transform our world so that
it reflects the divine values of justice and compassion.
Our Statement of Principles also incorporates our core values Israel, Philadelphia and the Community Process.
We welcome all who share the ideas articulated in this document. PDF Version of this Statement of Principles.
